about
“Tall Trees” was written and recorded quickly, at home in Berlin, and reflects the lightness, warmth and love surrounding the Christmas season. Marla’s lightly plucked viola lines and delicate vocals create a gentle, charming atmosphere in this love song about not understanding love.
Indianpolis’s Standard Recording Company, an independent record label active in the 2000s, released several Christmas compilations featuring songs from musicians and bands associated with the label. Marla released her first EP, Wedding Day with Standard in 2007, and was more than happy to contribute to their third Christmas album when they asked. “Tall Trees” has been remastered by Mike Grinser for this special Christmas 2022 reissue by Karaoke Kalk.
lyrics
Tall trees mark the winding path we make through the snow
Oh I’d love to hold your hand I know it’s way too cold
Is it luck?
Is it love?
I can’t tell anymore!
So much time I spent not sure but just wanting more
It’s so strange how fast your hands get warm once you’re indoors
Is it luck?
Is it love?
I can’t tell anymore!
Is it luck?
Is it love?
I can’t tell anymore!
Did you plan for many weeks before you asked?
I didn’t think too hard about it maybe that was best
Is it luck?
Is it love?
Who can tell anymore?
The greatest gift out of them all
Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas, to you!
